Trekking is something I’ve always loved, and combining it with the cultural essence of Jaipur sounded like the perfect blend. So, one crisp morning, I laced up my shoes and set out to discover what the Craft Village Trek had to offer.

In this blog, we will share the trekking route, its difficulty, and the total time required to complete the trek.

What is the Trek Difficulty?

Craft Village Trek difficulty is moderate. If you love adventure walking and don’t mind a bit of climbing, you’ll really enjoy this one. 

The trail is about 2 kilometers one way, and it takes around 1-2 Hours to complete, depending on your pace and how often you stop for breaks or photos.

What is the Trek Route?

The Craft Village Kunda (also known as Amer Craft Village) is a potters’ and artisans’ settlement near Amer in Jaipur, developed to preserve and promote traditional Rajasthani crafts.

The village lies in Kunda, Amer, along the Jaipur–Delhi Highway, and it is from here that this hidden trek begins.

There are two ways to start the trek:

From inside the village: This is the easier route, with clearly marked stairs that lead directly to the top of the Shiva Temple.

From the Jaipur–Delhi Highway: This route begins from the main road beside a small dargah. From here, stairs take you a short distance upward, after which the adventurous trail starts. This path winds its way through the natural terrain and eventually leads you to the top of the Shiva Temple.

How Much Time Will It Take?

The Craft Village Trek in Jaipur is a short and refreshing trail that will take up only a few hours to complete. On average, it takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete the trek, including both ascent and descent. 

The time may vary slightly depending on the route you choose and your pace. The village route with stairs is quicker and easier, while the highway route with the adventurous trail can take a little longer.

Either way, it’s a manageable trek suitable for beginners as well. Starting early in the morning is recommended so you can enjoy the trek at a relaxed pace and still have the rest of the day to explore Jaipur.

The Craft Village Trek is not a very difficult trail, but it’s full of small surprises along the way. Best Time To Visit the Trek?

The ideal time for the Craft Village Trek in Jaipur is between October and March.

Winter (Oct–Feb): Pleasant weather, cool breeze, and clear skies make trekking enjoyable. Mornings are crisp and perfect for long walks.

Spring (Mar): Still good, though afternoons start to get warmer.

Summer (Apr–June): Not recommended, as Jaipur’s heat can be intense and draining.

Monsoon (July–Sept): The greenery is refreshing, but trails can get slippery.

If you want to make the most of your trek, start early in the morning to catch the soft golden light and avoid the midday sun.

What is the Trek Difficulty?

Mount Sumel is an easy trek. If you enjoy walking and don’t mind a bit of climbing, you’ll really enjoy this one.

The trail is about 1 kilometer one way, and it takes around 45 Minutes to complete, depending on your pace and how often you stop for breaks or photos.

There are a few steep sections and rocky paths, but nothing dangerous or scary. You don’t need any special trekking skills—just comfortable shoes, a bottle of water, and some basic fitness. If you can walk uphill for 20–30 minutes, you’re good to go.

What is the Trek Route?

To get to the base of the trek, first head towards Sisodiya Rani Ka Bagh from central Jaipur. From there, drive or take a cab another 6 km toward Sumel village, following the Agra Highway. The trek starts just after you enter the village—you’ll spot some local homes, open land, and a faint trail leading toward the hills.

You can easily use Google Maps to navigate to "Sumel Village, Jaipur" or pin a nearby known point. There is no official signage for the trek, which is why it’s often missed by tourists.

The first part of the trail is quite easy and straight, making it a relaxing start. As you move ahead, the path begins to climb uphill. The trail becomes a bit steeper, with rocky patches and bushes along the way. 

It’s a nice mix of flat walk and gentle climb, giving you the feel of a real trek without being too tough. The changing landscape keeps the route exciting and full of natural charm.

How Much Time Will It Take?

The Mount Sumel trek usually takes around 1 to 2 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how often you stop to rest or take photos. 

If you're a regular walker, you might finish it quicker, but if you’re here to enjoy the views and soak in nature, give yourself the full two hours. 

The trail is not too long, but the climb can slow you down a bit in parts. It’s best to start early in the morning to avoid the heat and enjoy a peaceful experience.

What to Expect During a Hike?

The trail starts off simple and easy to follow. The first 10–15 minutes are a straight, gentle walk along a dusty path. Slowly, the terrain starts to change. The path begins to ascend, winding through bushes, rocks, and loose gravel. 

While it’s not a very long trek, it offers just enough challenge to make it interesting.
The total trek distance is about 3 to 4 km one way, depending on how far you go, and usually takes around 1 to 2 hours to complete. 

That includes time for breaks, photos, and soaking in the views from the top.

If you start early in the morning, the entire trek can be completed by late morning, making it an ideal half-day adventure.

The Best Time to Visit?

The ideal time to do the Mount Sumel trek is during the early morning hours, especially if you want to catch a beautiful sunrise. The temperature is cooler, the light is perfect for photos, and you’ll experience nature at its calmest.

In terms of seasons, the best months are:

October to March – Pleasant weather, clear skies, and greenery post-monsoon

Avoid May-June – Too hot and dry

Things to Carry

Since this is a raw and unmarked trail, you’ll need to be a little self-prepared. Here’s a quick checklist:

• Water bottle (1–2 liters)
• Light snacks or energy bars
• Good hiking or sports shoes
• Cap/hat and sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Fully charged phone (GPS recommended)
• Small backpack

The Saan Valley Trek typically starts from the village of Natata, located near Kukas. From here, two routes lead up the hill.

• One is the stairs, which take you directly to the top of Hanuman Ji Temple. 

• The other trail winds its way through lush green forests, offering glimpses of the valley below. 

As you ascend, the views become increasingly spectacular, with panoramic vistas of the Aravalli hills and the surrounding countryside.

The trail eventually leads to a ridge, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking sunrise or sunset. The descent back to Natata is equally rewarding, with opportunities to spot diverse flora and fauna along the way.

The total time taken for the Saan Valley Trek, including ascent and descent, is typically around 3-4 hours. However, this can vary depending on your pace, fitness level, and the number of breaks you take.

Choose the Right Season: The best time to trek the Saan Valley is during the monsoon season (July-September) or the winter months (October-February). The monsoon season brings lush greenery and waterfalls, while winter offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures.

Wear Comfortable Clothing: Opt for comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely. Layers are a good idea, as the temperature can fluctuate throughout the day.

Wear Good Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots with good traction are essential for navigating rocky terrain.

Carry Enough Water: Dehydration can be a major issue, especially during the summer months. Carry plenty of water and drink regularly.

About Mariam Mahal

There are no written records about her, but some historians believe she was an Armenian Christian who came to India during Mughal Emperor Akbar's rule when Armenians were granted privileges to settle and trade. The Mariam Mahal, located in dense forest, is believed to be 400-450 years old. It was heavily damaged by floods in 1981 and can only be reached by trekking through the forest.

There is no proper pathway to mahal , you have to find your own way to reach this place. This can be reached by trekking either from papad ke hanuman ji side or by near charan mandir.

What is the Trekking Route of Mariam Mahal Trek?

The trek starts from the Papad Ke Hanumanji Temple located in Vidhyadhar Nagar, Jaipur. The trail is easy and comfortable.

As you move forward from Papad Ke Hanumanji Temple backside, the trail will take you to the Nahargarh Forest. The trekking route to Hathni Kund and Mariam Mahal is almost similar till watch tower which you will find during the trek and from there onwards there is a trail diverged to the the left taking you to the dense forest and from there onwards you have to find the trail on your own which will take you to the ruins of the fort.

What is the Best Time to do Mariam Mahal trek?

The ideal time to embark on the Mariam Mahal Trek is during the cooler months, from October to March. During this period, the weather is pleasant, making the trek more enjoyable. 

The monsoon season (July to September) also adds a different charm with lush greenery and blooming flora, but it can be slippery and challenging.

About Amagarh Fort

Amagarh Fort, though not as widely known as some of Jaipur's other forts, plays a crucial role in the city's rich historical tapestry. Built by the Kachwaha rulers, who also established the city of Jaipur, Amagarh Fort served as a strategic military outpost. 

It was constructed to protect Jaipur from invasions and to oversee the surrounding region. The fort’s strategic location provided a vantage point to monitor and control the movement along the ancient trade routes that passed through the Aravalli Hills.

The Amagarh Fort Trek leads you to the ruins of the Amagarh Fort, some believe this fort dates back to the 17th century, possibly built by the Rajput rulers who governed Jaipur – the Kachchwahas.

What is the Trekking Route of Amagarh Fort Trek?

The trek starts from the Galta gate located at the city side. Once you enter the gate the path will take you to the Galta temple, so instead of going towards a Galta Temple take right and go towards a Sun temple which comes on a way to Amagarh Fort Trek.

As you move forward from the Sun Temple, Jaipur the trail will be easily visible and clear. After covering 2KM It will take you to the point where you will see a diversion of trails from that point you have to take right and once you follow that trail, it will directly take you to the Amagarh Fort.

My Experience of Amagarh Fort Trek

I was looking for a weekend getaway and got to know about this place on internet, so was very eager to explore this hike. So asked one of my friend Oshan who also live in Jaipur and he agrees that he will also join me in the trek alon with his Dogs.

We got up early in the morning on Sunday and reach to the starting point of the hike around 5:30 AM. The reason we chose to go so early is due to summer it become difficult to hike after 8 AM so we wanted to cover it before that.

We started on time and in next half n hour we reached Sun Temple. The early morning view of Jaipur from Sun Temple is so mesmerising as many people already doing morning Yoga and jogging which is giving so much positive vibe.

After taking a halt at sun temple for few minutes we continued on our trail which is very straightforward, going towards deep inside the jungle. As many walkers already on that trail it made us feel safe.

We could clearly hear the birds chirping and loud peacock voice, we lost in the beauty of the nature admiring how beautiful it is to come out of our comfort zone and experience this natural beauty. After covering almost 2KM we reached a point where the trek route has a diversion the left trail is going towards a Twin Tower Trek which I have already covered in during winters.

And, The right trail is going towards the Amagarh Fort, We then continued on our hike journey as our destiny is about to reach, after covering another 1 KM we reached Amagarh Fort, we did a small climb to reach to the top of the hill so that we can see the entire 360 degree view of city and Aravalli ranges.

And to our expectation the views is breathtakingly beautiful, we took out our cameras and phones to capture the beauty from the top of the hill. We spend some time soaking ourselves in the calmness of the nature and then continued on our return journey.

Krishna, touched by his unwavering devotion, granted him a boon – Barbarik would be worshipped as Khatu Shyam Ji in Kali Yuga (the current age) and his devotees would receive his blessings.

How to Reach Khatu Shyam Ji?

The nearest railway station to Khatu Shyam Ji is Ringas Junction (RGS), located about 17 kilometers away. It takes approximately 35 to 40 minutes to reach the temple from Ringas Junction. Trains between Jaipur and Khatu Shyam Ji include:

Khatu Shyam Ji is well-connected by roadways. State-run buses, as well as private taxis, operate regular services from nearby cities like Jaipur, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu.

Buses: Several private and government buses operate between Jaipur and Khatu Shyam Ji. While there are no reserved seats available, you can easily find buses departing from the Jaipur bus stand. From the Khatu bus stop, auto-rickshaws are available to take you to the temple.

Road Trip: The best way to reach Khatu Shyam Ji from Jaipur is by road. Take the Sawai Jai Singh Highway to the Jaipur-Sikar Roads, which lead to the Agra-Bikaner Road (NH 11). This scenic route covers approximately 80 kilometers and offers picturesque views of the Rajasthan countryside.

What are Khatu Shyam Ji Temple's Timings?

The temple of Khatu Shyam Ji opens its doors to devotees early in the morning and remains accessible till late evening. The timings may vary slightly depending on specific rituals and festivals. Generally, the temple timings are as follows:

Winters: Open from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Summers: Open from 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Note: The Temple is kept open for 24 Hours during Falgun Lakhi Mela for 10 Days

It is advisable to check the temple schedule beforehand, especially if you plan to attend any special ceremonies or events.

The ideal time to visit Khatu Shyam Ji is during the winter months, from October to March when the weather is pleasant and conducive for temple visits and sightseeing.

Moreover, several festivals, including the grand celebration of Phool Bangla and the annual fair during February, attract a large number of devotees during this period.

You can also plan your visit around Falgun Lakhi Mela which is held every year in March before the Holi festival. Although there will be a huge rush due to a large number of devotees visiting during this time. 

But if you want to feel the atmosphere, I would highly recommend visiting the temple during this time.

About Kishan Bagh

Kishan Bagh has a fascinating story behind it, Prince Jagat Singh of Amer, and his love story with Mariam a foreigner whom he married.  

After marriage, they decided to stay in a palace named after her which is Mariam Mahal, and the scenic surroundings around that mahal are known as Kishan Bagh.

Kishan Bagh is located in the Vidhyadhar Nagar area of Jaipur, and from the same place I have done a couple of hikes like Hathni Kund & Myla Bagh.

It was built by JDA(Jaipur Development Authority) with the help of famous environmentalist Pradip Krishnan and opened to the public in December 2021.

Winter (October to February): The garden is most pleasant during these months. Visit between 8 AM and 5:30 PM to enjoy the cool weather.

Summer (March to June): For early risers, the garden opens at 6 AM and closes at 6:30 AM during the summer season.

Note: The Park is closed on Tuesday.

One has to buy a ticket to enter the park. The ticket details are as follows:

My Experience of Kishan Bagh

I have been hiking around Jaipur for more than a year and exploring the beautiful gorgeous trails, while doing that I came to know about Kishan Bagh. It was on my list to visit this unique sand dune park but didn't get the chance.

It was New Year's Eve and I thought to visit this place along with my family to experience the Sunset from there. Kishan Bagh is located in the Vidhyadhar Nagar area which is close to my native place so I went in my car and there was enough parking space to park the vehicle.

We reached Kishan Bagh around 3 PM in the evening and after reaching we bought the ticket from the counter, while taking the ticket I learned that the Sand Dune part of Kishan Bagh would be closed after 4:30 PM.

We showed our ticket at the entry gate to the guard who scanned our bags just to ensure we didn't take eateries inside the Kishan Bagh. As we entered the Kishan Bagh we saw a wooden bridge on which we had to walk and on the side of it long Moonj- Local shrubs grow wildly in Rajasthan.

As we moved further we saw different sign boards that indicate different types of plants and shrubs which grow locally in this climate. I was amazed to see the effort taken by the authorities to promote and make people aware of local plants that grow in the harsh climate of Rajasthan.

Apart from the plants, sign boards are showcasing different types of stones placed around the path so that we can see by reading their names. As we all know Rajasthan stones are world famous and it is widely used across different parts of the world.

After walking for 2 KM we saw a hut-shaped structure made up of wood and grass under which seats were placed so that people could take rest there. Also, there is a washroom facility available in case anyone wants to use it.

We didn't make a halt there and continued on our path because we wanted to cover the sand dune part before 4:30 PM, and after a while, we could see a big sand dune structure once we crossed more than 2.5 km. 

We kept walking and it was getting difficult to walk on the sand but we were really having fun there. We soon came across a panoramic view where large sand dunes we could see along with the sunset. I captured a couple of photos there and enjoyed the beauty of this place before heading back.

Overall it was an amazing experience to experience the serenity and tranquility amidst nature. It is best to experience the sunrise and sunset. Just be sure in the evening there was so much crowd. So plan your visit in the morning.

Recommended Duration: Spend 1 to 3 hours exploring the garden’s nooks and crannies.

Photography: Capture the magic! Photography is allowed in Kishan Bagh.

Pets: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed within the garden premises of Kishan Bagh.

Washrooms: Convenient washroom facilities are available.

Parking: Fear not; ample parking space awaits your arrival.
