While exploring every famous and infamous spot in Jaipur, I explored a striking location called Chandlai Lake, which is famous for many reasons, especially for bird watching. The lake has tremendous and exceptional migratory birds giving perfect sightseeing for nature lovers.

About Chandlai Lake

Chandlai Lake is around 30 kilometers (takes almost one hour) from central Jaipur city, located in the village named Chandlai. The lake has beautiful scenic views to offer especially the early morning sunrise. The lake is the perfect spot for a peaceful and relaxing outing, along with nature with friends and family.

Besides the view, Chandlai Lake is especially famous for the enormous number of birds, offering the perfect place for bird watching. You can easily witness many birds flying around the lake, creating a perfect view for the photographers.

Chandlai Lake was built in the year 1872, considering the second lake after the Jal Mahal constructed under Jaipur Lake Development Act. 

The main cause of attraction here is the migratory birds, you can easily witness the Flamingos and other colorful birds like Little Ringed, Black Winged Stilt, Common Redshank, White Wagtail, etc. More than 10,000 local and migratory birds are arriving from central Europe, Africa, and China.

What is the Best time to visit Chandlai Lake?

The best time to visit the lake is during the Winter Season. The beginning of winter is from November to March. 

This is the time when thousands of migratory birds appear in the lake, giving the perfect spot for a picnic. The place is the best spot for naturalists and photographers to capture the vibrated colored gorgeous birds. 

You can plan your visit in the early morning to have a fantastic view of sunrise along with the birds.

How to Reach Chandlai Lake?

You can reach here via car or two-wheeler vehicle directly from Jaipur main city. The lake is located near national highway 12, four-lane. 

You can plan a family picnic or an outing with friends here and enjoy bird watching.

or If you love cycling this will going to be a perfect place to come on your bicycle and explore the whole lake on it.

My Experience of Chandlai Lake

I was so excited to visit this lake as I heard a lot about it and was planning for quite some time back but this place is best to visit in winter.

So I planned this trek in December month in a fine fine weekend. I asked a few of my friends to accompany me on my trip and they agreed to join me on this quest.

We planned to visit it early in the morning as we didn't want to miss the sunrise vibe of the place. So we started off from our home at 5AM as the lake is around 40 Kilometers from my home. I picked up my friends on my way and in no time we reached Chandlai Lake at 6:30 AM.

After reaching Chandlai Lake we started looking to park our car but it was hard to locate the entrance to Lake as its open but no clear way to enter it. So after looking around for some time we managed to find the way from where we can take our vehicle to Chandlai Lake.

Chandlai Lake is spread over a large area and it is surrounded by a hump of sand, So we parked our vehicle around it. As we came out of our car and went close to the lake we are mesmerized to see the beauty of the lake. The vibe is so calm and peaceful as I could clearly hear the chirping of the birds around it and due to winters, there is a lot of fog in the mid of the lake which diminishes the visibility.

We planned to take a walk around the lake and find a perfect place to sit and enjoy the bird watching. After walking for some time we found a place which is a kind of cemented square shape wall on which we all sat and we could clearly see the entire lake in front of us with better views compared to earlier.

I took out my camera gears to capture some sunrise moments and some beautiful birds sitting around the lake. As the sun rises the visibility of the lake got clear and we started to see a flock of birds in the middle of the lake area. and it's a treat for any bird photography lover to experience the majestic beauty.

While we were having our moment we found a few more people doing bird watching with their binoculars. I was curious to know more about the birds so I went up to them and we had a little conversation they explained to me a few of the birds and interesting facts about them. The only concern I felt about the lake is the garbage around it, and the water is also smelly. It was not well maintained and there is no effort had been made by Authority to improve this lake. If this lake is taken care of well it could turn out to be one of the most beautiful tourist destinations for Jaipurites.

Overall it was a very good experience around Jaipur to enjoy the peaceful vibe in the middle of nature.
