Story of Khatu Shyam Ji
According to legend, Khatu Shyam Ji was the grandson of Bhima, one of the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata. He was known as Barbarik, an invincible archer who possessed three infallible arrows capable of single-handedly ending the war.
However, Barbarik vowed to fight for the losing side to ensure a balanced battle. Lord Krishna, recognizing the potential for immense destruction, appeared before Barbarik and requested his head as an offering. Barbarik, ever the devotee, readily agreed. Krishna, touched by his unwavering devotion, granted him a boon – Barbarik would be worshipped as Khatu Shyam Ji in Kali Yuga (the current age) and his devotees would receive his blessings.
